1-CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!!
There's no use in painting your nails and rubbing in lotion if your hands and nails are dirty. Grab a toothbrush and squirt some soap on it, then rub it in.Everytime your hands come into contact with water, moisturize or lubricate them afterwards. Chemically enhanced moisturizers that contain lactic acid, urea or glycerin or different kind of oils is even more efficient in binding water to the skin.2-Protect them!
ALWAYS wear rubber gloves when working in garden or doing dishes. As,prevention is always better than cure. You can use Silicone or Barrier creams when doing dirty and greasy jobs, such as dishes, they will protect your hands by kind of creating a shield. As the water would evaporate, it takes moisture out of the skin; this barrier will make sure the moisture in your skin and hands stay there.3-Moisture
Now here comes the most important element for Happy hands!!!!The main goal of moisturizing your hands is, interestingly,is to protect the body’s own built-in humectant system.Try to moisture your hands atleast 4 times a day. This will help you to keep your hands soft. Moisturizing your hands before going to sleep is as important as brushing your teeth at night.
4-Easy Scrubbing!
Remove dead skin cells from your hands using a sea salt-lemon solution. Use any soft brush or maybe an old toothbrush to brush it on your hands twice a week. This will help soften your hands and get rid of any kind of discoloration.
One more amazing Home-made scrub is coming up,For that you would need:
- One tablespoon of white oats
- One tablespoon of honey
- Half cup water
- One tablespoon of cold milk
5-Think Hydration!
“Plugging in some small humidifiers around the house can add some much-needed moisture to the air, your hands, face and more.” Says Dr. Dale Isaacson of DC Derm Docs.Isaacson also points out the importance of wearing a sunscreen: "This isn’t just a summer staple. Even in the winter, exposure to the sun’s rays speeds up the aging process. This exposure increases the risk of developing dry skin, wrinkles, age spots and spider veins.
Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher on all skin that will be exposed, especially the hands.”
''Dried-out skin shows more flaws. When skin is hydrated, it glows and appears firmer. It looks great!" Dr. Bobby Buka, Dermatologist (First for Women, May 2009)
Pretty Nails!
Our fingernails are very noticeable and they convey a message about us to the people we meet.
DOs & Don'ts for happy nails!
- DO give attention to the cuticles regularly, using a moisturizing cream often to avoid the cuticles from drying out. Overgrown and ungroomed cuticles can adversely affect nail growth.Make sure you clean cuticles and push back with cotton-tipped orange stick. Wash hands to remove any traces of cuticle remover.
- DO use a soft nail file rather than using an emery board. Emery boards can be pretty rough and can damage the nail easily unless used with great care.I'd suggest using a soft cushion nail file and wash it regularly for repeated use. It almost goes without saying, metal nail files are a definite NO NO!
- Do rub the fingernails from one hand across the other. You can do this about five times daily as this helps in enhancing the nail growth.
- Do coat the outside of the nails with polish or ridge fillers, which can help protect the nail and prevent breaking and splitting, at least while the manicure lasts.
- Do Keep your fingernails dry and clean. Doing this would prevent bacteria, fungi and other organisms from growing under your fingernails. Also wear cotton-lined rubber gloves when washing dishes, cleaning or using harsh detergents or chemicals, and avoid long soaks in the tub.
- Do apply Olive oil over nails to get glossy, gleaming shine. Also,Almond oil will stop acrylic nails from dehydrating and coming away from the nail plate.
- Don't use nail products that contain formaldehyde or toluene. They pose health risks for the nail and for your entire body as well.
- Don't ever file nails back and forth, it makes nails weaken, or break nails.
- DON'T use your nails to scratch any kind of hard surfaces, pick at an object,to remove staples, or to serve as a digging tool. Just take a minute or two to get a proper tool for the job and avoid sacrificing the life out of your nails!
- Don't allow any manicurist to touch your hands with utensils that may have not been properly sterilized. The importance of this step cannot be ignorned. Risking your health and well-being for a manicure is just not worth it, and that is a definite possibility with bacteria-laden nail instruments!
